Why Client Services matter more than people think
The empathy, curiosity and calm at the heart of every great idea.

I started my career in client services back in the late 1990s, in a small Manchester design agency. I didn’t really know what the job was at first. I just knew I loved being around creative people – and that I seemed to have a knack for helping clients make sense of what we did.
That’s what good client services has always been about for me – understanding people. Clients, colleagues, designers, strategists, production teams – all with different pressures, ambitions and ways of working. You sit in the middle, translating, connecting, sometimes absorbing the stress so others don’t have to. It isn’t (always) glamorous, but it’s vital to our teams, our clients and how we contribute to collective success.
Client Services is often described as ‘the glue’, and that’s true, but it’s more than that.
It’s the empathy that keeps relationships strong and helps teams work seamlessly together; the calm in the middle of creative chaos, with the confidence to question and challenge when it matters, uncovering what’s really driving clients’ decisions; the curiosity that turns a vague brief into something powerful; and the accountability that ensures ideas aren’t just talked about, but delivered, and improved on, every time.

In an agency like Continuous, where ideas are everything, Account Managers are the ones who make sure those ideas have space to grow and actually reach the world. They’re the ones who help clients feel heard and help creatives feel understood. When they do it well, everyone around them feels lighter, more confident, more connected.
It’s a job that teaches you patience, perspective and people skills you’ll use for the rest of your career. It’s where I learned how to lead, how to listen and how to build trust. And that’s why I’ll always have huge respect for anyone who does it.
At Continuous, we’re always looking to connect with talented, curious people who care about doing great work and doing it the right way. Right now we're recruiting for an Account Manager – more details here.
Even if you’re not currently looking, say hello, we love meeting good people and expanding our network.
When uncertainty and shifting expectations are the new normal, brands no longer need radical transformation. What’s needed is long-term thinking and the ability to adapt quickly.
Start with an email, and we’ll be in touch within 24 hours to organise a phone call, video chat, or face-to-face coffee – whatever works best for you.
